Florida Crate Labels, 1920s-1950s

木箱の紙製ラベルのコレクション。

19世紀末、鉄道や蒸気船による輸送が可能になったことで、フロリダ産の柑橘類などの果物や野菜をアメリカ東部全域に販売するようになり、生産者は木箱にカラフルなイメージやブランド名の紙製ラベルを付けることで、より注目を集めようとしました。

第二次世界大戦が始まると、収穫の多くが直接軍に送られ、戦争が終わる頃には、木箱に代わって段ボール箱が使われるようになり、表面に直接印刷することができるようになったため、紙製ラベルは時代遅れになり、1950年代半ばまでには不要になりました。
